  2. Understand
  3. Check the notes
  4. Re-solve

Clear explanations

Right after you answer, you see the conclusion and the reason for each option — why it is right and why the others are wrong — so you can handle the same idea when it is worded differently. Each one links to its primary source.

Clear study notes

Only what the exam tests, organised into 69 sections. Tables and 6 interactive figures make hard-to-remember numbers and processes easy to see.

Mistakes linked to the notes

From the explanation of a question you got wrong, jump straight to the section of the notes to read. On Premium, sections linked to your mistakes are marked inside the notes, so you can review just your weak spots.

GUIDE

About the IELTS Academic exam and how to study with examplat

About IELTS Academic

IELTS Academic is the English-language test accepted by universities, professional bodies and immigration authorities in the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and many other countries. It measures the four skills: Listening (about 30 minutes, 40 questions), Reading (60 minutes, 40 questions on three academic passages), Writing (60 minutes, two tasks) and Speaking (an 11 to 14 minute interview). Each skill is scored on a band scale from 0 to 9, and the overall band is the average of the four. Tests are offered on paper and on computer throughout the year.

Most universities ask for an overall band of 6.0 to 7.0 with no skill below 5.5 or 6.0, and professional registration often requires 7.0 in every skill. Results are valid for two years. Check the IELTS website for test dates, fees and the exact requirements of the institution you are applying to.

Reading and Listening are where practice pays fastest

Reading and Listening are scored objectively, so every correct answer moves your band, and both reward familiarity with the question types: true/false/not given, matching headings, sentence completion, multiple choice, matching information and diagram labelling. The main obstacle in Reading is time, so practise locating answers by scanning for keywords and paraphrases rather than reading every line. Listening demands that you predict the kind of word that fits each gap before the audio starts. For Writing and Speaking, the band descriptors reward task response, coherence, vocabulary range and grammatical accuracy, so learn what the examiners are looking for and build a store of academic vocabulary.

How to use examplat for IELTS Academic

examplat holds 1,000 original questions, with the largest share on Reading (540 questions across the common question types), plus Listening practised through script comprehension, and Writing and Speaking covered through knowledge and selection questions on band descriptors, task structure, vocabulary and grammar. Every question has an explanation, the reason each option is right or wrong, and links to the official band descriptors or guidance. Use Reading sets daily to build speed, then review your wrong answers by question type to see which skills need work.
