GUIDE
About the Edexcel A-level Mathematics exam and how to study with examplat
About Pearson Edexcel A-level Mathematics (9MA0)
Pearson Edexcel Advanced GCE in Mathematics (9MA0) is the main A-level mathematics qualification from Pearson in the UK. It is assessed through three written papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2 cover pure mathematics, and Paper 3 covers statistics and mechanics. Each paper is 2 hours and carries 100 marks. Students receive an overall grade from A* to E. Calculators are permitted.
Pure mathematics includes proof, algebra and functions, coordinate geometry, sequences and series, trigonometry, exponentials and logarithms, differentiation, integration, numerical methods and vectors. Statistics covers data presentation, probability, distributions and hypothesis testing. Mechanics covers kinematics, forces and Newton's laws, and moments. The International Advanced Level offered by Pearson is a separate qualification, so check the specification that your school or centre follows.
How to study for it
A-level mathematics rewards fluency in algebra and clear, structured working. Make sure that you can manipulate algebra quickly, sketch standard graphs, and move between differentiation and integration without hesitation. In statistics, practise choosing the right model and stating hypotheses and conclusions in context.
Use multiple-choice practice to find gaps quickly: a wrong answer usually points to a specific method error, such as a sign, a missed chain-rule factor or a misread condition. Then redo similar problems with full written working, because the real papers reward method marks.
How to use examplat for A-level Mathematics
examplat holds more than 1,000 original multiple-choice questions on pure mathematics, statistics and mechanics, each with a worked explanation and links to the published Pearson specification. Choose an area, practise in short sessions, and review your mistakes together.
examplat provides multiple-choice practice only: it does not mark written working, and it has no study notes or interactive figures for this exam. Use it alongside your textbook, class notes and past papers published by Pearson.
