A buffer has pKa=4.76 and [A⁻]/[HA]=10.0. What is its pH?
pH=pKa+log([A⁻]/[HA])=4.76+log(10.0)=5.76. A tenfold excess of conjugate base raises pH by one unit.

GUIDE
About the AP Chemistry exam and how to study with examplat
About AP Chemistry
AP Chemistry is a College Board Advanced Placement course and exam equivalent to a first-year university general chemistry course. The course is organised into nine units: atomic structure and properties, compound structure and properties, properties of substances and mixtures, chemical reactions, kinetics, thermochemistry, equilibrium, acids and bases, and applications of thermodynamics. It emphasises scientific practices such as explaining phenomena at the particle level, working with data and models, and justifying claims quantitatively.
The exam is held once a year in May and is scored from 1 to 5. It has a multiple-choice section and a free-response section. Many universities grant credit or placement for qualifying scores, but each university sets its own policy. Check the College Board website for the current exam format, dates, calculator rules and score reporting.
How to study the question types
Many questions give a table, a graph, a particle diagram or a short experiment description and ask what the data show. Practise connecting the macroscopic observation to the particle-level explanation, for example why a boiling point changes with intermolecular forces, or why a rate depends on concentration.
For calculations, write the relationship in words first, keep units through every step, and check whether the size and sign of your answer make sense. Keep a short list of the relationships you use most, such as stoichiometry, the ideal gas law, q = mcΔT, equilibrium expressions and the Henderson–Hasselbalch equation, and know when each one applies.
How to use examplat for AP Chemistry
examplat holds more than 1,000 original multiple-choice questions organised by the course units, each with an explanation and links to the College Board course and exam description. Choose a unit, practise in short sessions, then review your wrong answers by unit and re-solve them without hints.
examplat covers multiple-choice practice only: it does not mark free-response answers or laboratory design, and it has no study notes or interactive figures for this exam. Use your textbook, class notes and the free-response materials published by the College Board alongside it.
