GUIDE
About the GCSE History (AQA) exam and how to study with examplat
About AQA GCSE History (8145)
AQA GCSE History (8145) is a two-year qualification taken in England and Wales, assessed through two written papers of 2 hours each and graded from 9 to 1. Paper 1 covers Understanding the modern world: a period study (for example America 1840-1895, Germany 1890-1945, Russia 1894-1945 or America 1920-1973) and a wider world depth study (for example the First World War, the inter-war years, East and West 1945-1972, Asia or the Gulf and Afghanistan). Paper 2 covers Shaping the nation: a thematic study of Britain (health, power or migration) and a British depth study that includes the historic environment (Norman England, Edward I, Elizabethan England or Restoration England).
Questions ask students to explain causes and consequences, to make inferences from sources, to evaluate interpretations and to write a developed argument about importance or change. Schools choose the options they teach, so use the questions that match your own options. Check AQA's website for the current specification, exam dates and mark schemes.
How to study the question types
Short explain questions reward accurate, specific facts and a clear link to the cause or consequence being asked about. For source questions, use details of the source itself before adding your own knowledge. For longer questions, plan two or three paragraphs, each with a point, evidence and a link back to the question.
Multiple-choice practice checks dates, people, terms and the logic of cause and consequence. Use it to find gaps in your knowledge before you practise full written answers.
How to use examplat for GCSE History
examplat holds more than 1,000 original multiple-choice questions organised by the AQA options in the specification, plus 440 written-answer practice questions with marks for one option (Conflict and tension: the inter-war years, 1918-1939), each with a model answer and a marking guide. Every question has an explanation and links to the AQA specification and other public sources.
For written questions you type your answer and examplat gives an automatic score as a guide, by how many of the key points in the model answer you include. It cannot judge the quality of an argument. Compare your answer with the model and ask your teacher for feedback. examplat has no study notes or interactive figures for this exam.

Are these past exam questions or an official question bank?
No. All questions and explanations are original content written by Sakakikaen Co., Ltd. They are not reproduced exam questions and are not produced, supervised or endorsed by the exam body.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It runs in your browser, and you can add it to your home screen to use it like an app.

Who runs examplat?
Sakakikaen Co., Ltd., a company registered in Japan. Our company and legal information, including how to contact us, is linked in the footer of every page.
How do payments work?
Checkout is handled by Stripe, a payment provider used worldwide; your card number never reaches us. Prices for this exam are charged in US dollars, and nothing changes your plan without your action.
Do I type written answers?
Yes, for the written questions. Type your answer with the keyboard and examplat gives a score as a guide, based on how many of the key words and numbers in the model answer you include. It is an automatic check, not a human mark, and it does not read meaning, so a rephrased answer can score lower than it deserves. Always compare your answer with the model answer and the marking guide that are shown.
Does it cover every option?
The multiple-choice questions cover the options in the specification. The written-answer questions cover one option only, Conflict and tension: the inter-war years, 1918-1939.
Are these official AQA questions?
No. All questions are original and written by Sakakikaen Co., Ltd. They are not past paper questions, and examplat is not affiliated with or endorsed by AQA. AQA is a trademark of AQA Education.
Does it include study notes or interactive figures?
Not for this exam. Each question comes with an explanation and links to the sources behind it.
