GUIDE
About the GCSE Combined Science (AQA Trilogy) exam and how to study with examplat
About AQA GCSE Combined Science: Trilogy (8464)
AQA GCSE Combined Science: Trilogy (8464) is a two-year double-award qualification taken in England and Wales, worth two GCSEs. It covers biology (cell biology, organisation, infection and response, bioenergetics, homeostasis and response, inheritance, variation and evolution, ecology), chemistry (atomic structure and the periodic table, bonding, quantitative chemistry, chemical changes, energy changes, rates, organic chemistry, chemical analysis, the atmosphere, using resources) and physics (energy, electricity, the particle model, atomic structure, forces, waves, magnetism and electromagnetism).
It is assessed through six written papers, two each in biology, chemistry and physics, at Foundation or Higher tier, and graded on a double scale from 9-9 to 1-1. Papers mix multiple-choice, structured, short-answer and open-response questions, and also test the required practical activities and maths skills. Check AQA's website for the current specification, exam dates and mark schemes.
How to study the question types
Many questions start from a table, graph or short description of an experiment. Say what the data show first, then explain it with the science. Practise reading values from graphs, calculating means and rates, and judging whether a method gives valid, repeatable results.
For calculations, write the equation, substitute with units, and check whether the size of the answer makes sense. Learn the physics equations you must recall, and keep a short list of the chemistry relationships you use most, such as relative formula mass, moles and concentration.
How to use examplat for GCSE Combined Science
examplat holds more than 1,000 original multiple-choice questions organised by biology, chemistry and physics, each with an explanation and links to the AQA specification and other public sources. Choose a subject, practise in short sessions, and review the wrong answers together.
examplat covers multiple-choice practice only: it does not mark written or extended answers, and it has no study notes or interactive figures for this exam. Use your textbook, class notes and the past papers and mark schemes published by AQA alongside it.
