GUIDE

About the AP Seminar exam and how to study with examplat

About AP Seminar

AP Seminar is a College Board Advanced Placement course about research and argument rather than a fixed body of content. Students investigate real-world issues from multiple perspectives, evaluate sources and evidence, and build and present arguments. It is assessed through a team project and presentation, an individual research-based essay and presentation, and an end-of-course exam, and it is scored from 1 to 5.

The end-of-course exam gives students sources and asks them to analyse an argument, compare perspectives and write an evidence-based argument. Because the exam depends on source analysis, the best practice is working with unfamiliar sources under time. Check the College Board website for the current course and exam description.

How to study the question types

Start by asking what a source can and cannot show: who produced it, how the evidence was gathered, and what claim the evidence actually supports. A strong response separates what a source reports from the conclusions someone draws from it.

When you write, state a clear claim, connect it to specific details from the sources, and acknowledge a limitation or an opposing perspective. Short answers that name a strength, a limitation and a qualified conclusion earn more than long summaries.

How to use examplat for AP Seminar

examplat holds about 1,000 original written-response questions built around short fictional sources, each with a model answer and a marking guide. Read the sources, type your response and compare it with the model answer.

Your response is scored automatically as a guide, by how many of the key points in the model answer you include. It does not judge reasoning quality, and the real course also has performance tasks that a teacher scores, so use it for source-analysis practice only.
