About the Agricultural Skills Assessment Test (Crop Farming)
The Agricultural Skills Assessment Test is the skills test for the Specified Skilled Worker (i) status in agriculture. It is run by the National Chamber of Agriculture in Japan and abroad, by computer or on paper. The crop farming test covers general crop farming, safety and health, rice, field crops and vegetables, greenhouse horticulture and fruit trees.
According to the National Chamber of Agriculture's published outline, the test has about 70 questions in 60 minutes: written questions and practical-judgement questions (true/false and multiple choice, using illustrations and photos), plus a Japanese listening part about work instructions and numbers. It is taken in the language of the test country and Japanese. The pass mark is set by the National Chamber of Agriculture and is not published. Check its website for the latest information before you book.
How the questions on examplat work
Each question is written in Japanese with furigana (small kana readings) over the kanji, and you can show your language (English, Indonesian or Vietnamese) together with it, or only one of them. This lets you practise in your language and learn the Japanese words used on farms at the same time. The translations, explanations and three-step hints are AI translations of what we wrote in Japanese.
Every answer is checked against public sources such as Japanese laws (e-Gov), the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, NARO and prefectural farming guides, and each explanation shows its source.
Japanese listening
The Japanese listening questions (work instructions, numbers, times and places) are still in preparation. When they are ready, they will use synthetic (computer-generated) voices, which are different from the voices in the real test. The written and practical-judgement questions are available now.
How to study with examplat
Start with the 3 free questions. Then practise one area at a time, such as soil and fertilizer, pests and pesticides, or machinery safety, in short daily sessions on your phone. Wrong answers and questions you answered with hints are saved, so you can re-solve them and spend your time on your weakest area.
